Emailed quarterly to every ILIan in Region 1 for whom an email address is on file. Others will find a copy in their next issue of Integra.
Hello again fellow Region 1 ILIan!
I am sad to report that former President and Webmaster, Kort Patterson, passed away on January 6. He will be greatly missed. Among his many contributions, Kort created and maintained the Intertel website, Top-1, and the membership database. A successor must be quickly found. If you have the necessary skills to pick up some or all of the maintenance and administrative tasks to help keep Intertel's Internet presence alive, please contact Office Manager Linda Woodhouse right away.
Have you registered for Intertel's 2017 AGA? It will be June 28-July2 in Atlanta. See your latest Integra for the registration form or email me for a .PDF. I hope you come. It's always a good time.
The next communique will be around May 1. I hope there will be more Region 1 news and happier news to report.
Hello again fellow Region 1 ILIan!
There has been a lot of conversation lately about "responsive web design" so I have redesigned the Intertel Region 1 web page to be more smart phone and tablet friendly. Take a look and see how it plays on your devices.
The Executive Board has realigned a couple of states and Region 1 now includes Wisconsin in addition to Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Welcome! I urge you to take an interest in Intertel and participate when invited to Meet-Greet-n-Eat events, join Top1, and keep up with the Region 1 web site. As you notice, I communicate electronically. A version of this will appear in your next Integra, but, if you want to get it when it is first released, be sure your member profile includes a valid email address. If you don't have a computer or choose to not share an email address with Intertel, watch for "Region 1 News" in Integra.
I hope you're happy in Intertel. If not, let me know what can be done to give you more satisfaction. If so, talk to friends and family (especially Mensans you know) about Intertel and encourage them to give us a try! Local events would be a lot easier to set up if there were more members near one another!
Thanks to Editor Ed Glomski this message will also be in your next issue of Integra. Primarily this is for the few ILIans who don't have a computer (yes, there are still a few). But it might come in handy if you just don't want to get email or you misplace an email or your computer system goes down. For all these very good reasons Region 1 News will be a regular feature in your Integra. Of course, all Region 1 News is also on our Region 1 web page.
The next communique will be around February 1.
Hello again fellow Region 1 Ilian!
The 2016 AGA in Anaheim, CA was a lot of fun with old acquaintances renewed and new ones made. Only three of us from Region 1 took part: Harry Ericson of Youngstown and Beth Taylor and myself of Dayton. Some photos of the event are on the Region 1 web page. Next year, the AGA will be in Atlanta and, in 2018, our region will host the Intertel AGA in Indianapolis. More details will be forthcoming. I hope attendance from our region will increase with these events closer by. Also, you could make a contribution to the Indianapolis event by volunteering to service the Hospitality Suite for a couple of hours and/or make a presentation on a topic of your choice, We have time - think about it. Please!
And speaking of helping out - no one has reported holding a Meet-Greet-n-Eat in our region. I hope that's just lack of reporting and not lack of activity.
The last bit of news is that, due to technical difficulties, the Region 1 web page has relocated and is now located at http://region1.billietaylor.com. If you have it book-marked in your browser (and I hope you do), you might want to delete the old one and book-mark this one.
The next communique will be around November 1.
Here are a few photos of the 2016 AGA.
Hello again fellow Region 1 Ilian!
Here comes summer! The Intertel AGA will be held this year in Los Angeles July 6-10. Links to Information and registration form are on the Intertel home page. The hotel is exceptionally reasonably priced, air fares are not outrageous just now, and, for those of you planning to attend the Mensa AG in San Diego the week before, it is only a short train ride. I will be there and will very much enjoy meeting everyone who comes from Region 1. My plan is to make a road trip to both meetings with several personal stops on the way to and fro. Think about it and sign up!
Central Indiana has a new Area Coordinator. If you are in that area of the Region welcome Bob Campbell and offer to help him out. There's a photo of me with Bob on the Intertel Region 1 Web Page. He makes our second AC. We need ACs elsewhere so don't be shy! If you have an hour a week and want more activities in Intertel, it's up to you! Start slow and check out How to Host a Gathering and give it a shot.
I hope there will be more news of local events to report in the August newsletter. Meanwhile, stay happy and have fun!
Hello again fellow Region 1 Ilian!
We hope you had a happy holiday season.
There is little to report in the way of activities in Region 1. A couple of folks contacted me about hosting a Meet-Greet-'n'-Eat event. but apparently the holidays and weather have put those on hold. I had hoped others, especially in major cities areas, would step up and make the effort, but not yet. Maybe this will inspire you to check out How to Host a Gathering and give it a shot.

Hello, fellow Region 1 Ilian!
I hope you welcome this message as an indication that Region 1 of Intertel is again active. I will only send additional messages when our Region 1 web page is updated. It is unlikely that will be more often than monthly. If you're as negligent as I am about re-visiting web pages, an occasional reminder is a good thing.
There are a few of you for whom I do not have a valid email address so you will receive this message by snail mail, but please add your email address to your profile at Intertel so we can stay in touch without spending your dues money unnecessarily. If you fear too broad an access to your email address, just tell me what it is and ask me to keep it to myself; I promise I won't share it with anyone else, not even the membership database. (I find it hard to believe that anyone in this organization doesn't use email. Really? Seriously?) Again, you will only get messages from only me and only when our page is updated.
The web page has an archive of messages from me, news about area events, information about how to set up a local area Meet-Greet-'n'-Eat should you wish to, and reminders about Intertel International events.
Please, please, please, take a moment right now to visit our web page and bookmark it.
Bill Taylor, Intertel Region 1 Director
There has been a pretty long hiatus in the position of Region 1 director so I volunteered for the job. By way of introduction I invite you to take a look at my web site
The Annual General Assembly is in Philadelphia September 9-12, 2015. I hope you can come. Full information is at http://www.intertel-iq.org/AGA-2015-registration-form.pdf and is also in your last Integra.
One of topics sure to come up at the Executive Board meeting is attracting new members. I would really appreciate suggestions about how we can do that. Perhaps you would share with me the reason(s) you joined. Others have told me “for the glory,” “meeting like-minded people,” “invited by a member,” “challenged by an acquaintance,” and “escaping petty politics in some other high-IQ organizations.” Any thing to add?
Also of interest to the Board will be a report from me about local or area Intertel activities, gatherings, meetings, newsletters, bulletins, etc. Anything happen this year in your neck of the woods? And – if there is something scheduled or planned please be sure to let me know. I would even like to come if invited and personal resources permit.
If you have any questions or comments or concerns about Intertel you would like to share, please do contact me. E-mail is best.
The Intertel Election Committee declared Bill Taylor elected to the position of Region 1 Director.
Would you like to hold an Area Meet-Greet-'n'-Eat? Here's how:
- Select a moderately priced restaurant in a central location and a Monday through Thursday dinner time. A private room isn't necessary, just reserve a large enough table to accommodate those who accept your invitation (it probably won't be more than a half-dozen).
- Email or telephone Intertel members in your area inviting them (your Regional Director will give you a list of members in your area); something like: "Hi, Member Name! I'm Your Name, down here in Your City. I'm Intertel's Area Coordinator for this area, which by your ZIP code includes you. We're going to have a dutch-treat Meet-Greet-n-Eat for ILIans and their guests at Restaurant Name, address, on date and time. (Feel free to bring a friend or significant other; better yet, a prospective member.) We'll meet fellow Ilians and have great conversation. If you can join us, please let me know. I look forward to seeing you!" Sign with your name, address, email address, and telephone number and "P.S. If you don't reply and your schedule clears, come anyway. We'll make room for you."
- Make a table tent with “Intertel” on both sides. (You can use this template: print on heavy paper, cut vertically, fold each half to make 2 tents.)
- At the restaurant arrive 15 minutes early, claim your table, and set the table tent so one side can be seen from the door. Introduce yourself as people arrive and facilitate introductions all around.
- Have a good time!
- Near the end of the meal, say something like: “OK! I did this one, who will do one in about three months?”
- Send an email to your RD with number attending, a photo if you took one, and the name of whomever agreed to be the next host.
Did you have a good time? Was it too hard? If you did and it wasn't, take a look at the Area Coordinator Job Description and try to persuade yourself to take it on. Please? We need your help and now you know it's not so bad!
